Mother’s Day is a day to recognize everything moms do for their families by showering her with love and gratitude. Gifts are great, but sometimes buying a gift or making a present isn’t enough to give Mom the thanks she deserves. Make this Mother’s Day extra special by planning a fun activity your mom or your children’s mom won’t expect but will remember for years to come. Here are just a few ideas to help get you started.
Plan a Great British Baking Show Day
If your mom is a fan of the Great British Baking Show, bring her favorite baking show to life. Rewatch some of her favorite episodes, or binge watch the whole series, and make the day extra special by serving her some tea and pastries. If your mom loves to bake, try baking some of her favorite desserts from the show together. You can find recipes from the show here. Better yet, plan your own bake off with recipes from the show and let Mom play Mary Berry and pick the best dessert (British accent optional).
Start a Garden
Gardening is a relaxing hobby that can bring joy all year long, so why not spend this Mother’s Day planting a garden with your mom? Start small with a window box or raised flower bed, or go large and fill up the yard! Pick out some of your mom’s favorite flowers, herbs, fruits, or vegetables, or let the kids pick plants they think Mom would love and spend the day outdoors together. She’ll feel loved every time she sees her beautiful plants, and if she doesn’t have a green thumb, at least she’ll have the memories of a fun day together!
Go Wine Tasting Together
It’s not an understatement to say that wine is God’s gift to moms, so for moms with children over 21, going wine tasting is a perfect way to spend Mother’s Day. Find a nearby winery or take a road trip to a beautiful vineyard and spend the day trying wine. Many wineries and vineyards allow you to bring your own food, which is a good opportunity to bring your mom’s favorite cheese, cured meats, and crackers. Just call ahead or check the business’s website to find out about their outside food policy.
Have a Mother’s Day Scavenger Hunt
Rather than just giving Mom her gift, plan a scavenger hunt and get the whole family involved. Scavenger hunts can be elaborate or simple, making them perfect for kids of all ages to participate in their mom’s special day. Have kids help make clues that will lead Mom around the house or throughout town to take her to her Mother’s Day gift, or a special dinner at one of her favorite restaurants, or both!
Bring the Spa to Mom
What mom wouldn’t love to be pampered on Mother’s Day? Creating a spa day at home can help her relax and feel rejuvenated after all the hard work she does for her kids every hour of the day. Using natural products, like milk, coconut oil, and cucumbers, makes an at-home spa day safe for young kids to pamper their moms. Kids of any age can help Mom relax by placing some cool cucumber slices on her eyes and letting her kick back her feet in a rose-scented milk foot soak while she sips on her favorite beverage.
The sky’s the limit when it comes to showing Mom how much she’s loved and appreciated. Whether you try one of these activities or come up with your own, making Mother’s Day all about Mom will make her feel like the special woman she is.
