With a busy work week, rambunctious kids and never-ending errands, it can be difficult to plan meals for the entire week. So what do you do when you come home and realize you didn’t pull anything out for dinner? Head to your kitchen cabinets and pull out your waffle iron for an effortless, yet tasty, meal.
The great thing about the waffle iron is that you can make just about anything with it. And it doesn’t always have to be breakfast related or even a waffle. Here is a list of some quick and tasty waffle iron recipes that will be sure to make your weeknight meal memorable.
Besides waffles, did you know you could cook your bacon in the waffle iron as well? Let’s not dirty a bunch of dishes and make cleanup a snap. Why don’t you throw in your favorite omelet recipe in there as well? Or how about some hash browns on the iron too? Don’t forget to use extra cooking spray to avoid sticking.
Ingredients: Refrigerated cinnamon rolls, icing, and non-stick cooking spray.
Directions: Preheat waffle iron and spray with non-stick cooking spray. Separate the rolls and place them onto the waffle iron. Close and cook for 1 ½ to 3 minutes. Top with cream cheese icing.
Ingredients: 8 hot dogs, 8 slices of white bread, waffle batter (as prepared by the box directions), 3 to 4 tbsp. maple syrup or honey, 16 wooden toothpicks.
Directions: Preheat waffle iron. Flatten out the bread slices with a rolling pin. Roll the hot dog in the flattened bread. Secure the edges of the bread by placing two toothpicks through the hot dog. Whisk maple syrup or honey into the prepared waffle batter. Use tongs to dip hot dog rolls into waffle batter. Place onto waffle iron. Press down gently intermittently for 5 minutes or until done.
Ingredients: Refrigerated biscuits, pepperoni, sliced mozzarella cheese, and marinara sauce (for dipping).
Directions: Preheat waffle iron. Slice the biscuits in half and layer mozzarella cheese and pepperoni. Top with the other half of the biscuit. Seal the edges of the biscuit. Place on waffle iron and cook until browned.
Ingredients: Tortillas, shredded chicken (cooked), shredded cheese, and non-stick cooking spray.
Directions: Preheat your waffle iron and spray iron with cooking spray. Place tortilla on bottom and layer chicken and cheese on top. Top with second tortilla and close waffle iron. Cook for 4 minutes or until the tortilla is lightly browned and the cheese is melted.
Waffle Brownie Sundae
Ingredients: Prepared brownie mix, butter, toppings (vanilla ice cream, whipped cream, caramel sauce, sprinkles, maraschino cherries)
Directions: Preheat waffle iron and brush the top and bottom with butter. Fill the iron three-quarters of the way full with brownie batter, close the lid and cook until the edges are slightly crispy (4 to 6 minutes). Remove and top with desired sundae toppings.
