Spring break is a great time to take advantage of warmer weather. What better way to enjoy some springtime sun than with a trip to one of our nation’s beautiful beaches? Even if you’re on a budget, planning a spring break beach trip can be feasible with these helpful tips.
The key to planning a beach getaway on a budget is to be a savvy shopper. Try booking your airline flight through online discount travel companies like Priceline and Travelocity. Look for package deals that include airfare, hotel, and car rental. Bundling your airfare, hotel, and car rental is generally cheaper than purchasing each separately.
Another way to plan a budget beach getaway is to avoid “touristy” beaches like Miami Beach or Santa Monica. Tourist trap beaches are often surrounded by higher priced hotels and dining. Instead, look for beaches where the locals go.
Here are just a few beach favorites you may want to consider this spring break:
The Florida Panhandle
The Florida Panhandle is Florida’s northwest coast and offers many great alternatives to Miami and Daytona Beach. The beaches of the Florida Panhandle are known for soft, fine sand and less crowds than Florida’s more well-known beaches. Check out Grayton Beach or Blue Mountain Beach if you are heading to Florida. Grayton Beach is family friendly and Blue Mountain Beach offers a charming retreat.
The Texas Coastal Bend
The Texas coast is home to many wonderful beaches which are great for budget travelers. Port Aransas Beach in Nueces County is perfect for surfers looking for lots of waves. Magnolia Beach is another popular beach amongst locals and is never overcrowded with tourists, making it perfect for your beach getaway.
The Southern California Coast
Southern California is famous for its beaches, but skip Santa Monica, Laguna Beach, and Venice Beach if you’re looking to enjoy the beach on a budget. Huntington Beach and Coronado are wonderful alternatives to soak in the sun. Huntington Beach, dubbed “Surf City U.S.A.,” is the place to go to experience California beach culture at its finest. Coronado has been a favorite amongst California natives for well over a century. The community just off the coast of downtown San Diego is home to the famous Hotel Del Coronado. Though staying at Hotel Del is not for the budget conscious – rooms start at about $300 a night – the side sandy beaches are free and open for all to enjoy.
The Coastline of Mexico
The Mexican coastline is full of gorgeous beaches and friendly locals. The beaches of Mexico are popular amongst American tourists seeking less crowds, unspoiled terrain and lower prices. Check out Rosarito Beach in Baja California if you’re considering visiting Mexico’s beaches. Rosarito is perfect for budget-conscious travelers because it offers inexpensive hotels and dining options. Mazatlan is another great option for spring break beach getaways. Mazatlan isn’t as visited as other Mexican beach hotspots like Cabo San Lucas or Puerto Vallarta, which translates into savings for those on a budget.
Regardless of your budget, with just a little planning and research, you can make visiting the beach happen this spring break.
