The newest Avengers movie, Captain America: Civil War, kicked off our summer 2016 blockbusters. The movie set records as the 5th biggest opening weekend of all time. Here are 10 movies making their debut that are expected to dominate this summer. Let’s see if any of them can come close to our Avengers frontrunner.
Release Date: June 10
This film has been in post-production for some time and it’s all riding on director Duncan Jones to deliver the first video game based movie to do well at the box office. The story line is still being kept under wraps, but we suspect fans of the popular game will venture out to see it regardless.
Popstar: Never Stop Stopping
Release Date: June 3
The members of the comedy group The Lonely Island have come together to create their first major film, about a former boy band member who does everything in his power to maintain his celebrity status. This star-studded mockumentary is sure to be a hit.
Release Date: May 27
This is the ninth movie in X-Men film series and while the film has received mixed reviews from critics, the star-packed cast will be sure to entertain. In the movie, an ancient mutant and his team awaken from their ancient slumber and plan to take over the world. It is up to the X-Men to stop Apocalypse and his Four Horsemen.
Independence Day: Resurgence
Release Date: June 24
This sequel has been in the works since the first one debuted. We can expect the return of Jeff Goldbloom and Bill Pullman will be returning along with newcomer Liam Hemsworth and Vivica A. Fox. This sequel will pick up some time soon after where the other one left off.
Date: July 15
Ghostbusters is making their comeback in this reboot. This supernatural comedy includes Melissa McCarthy, Kristen Wiig, Katie McKinnon and Leslie Jones and they are here to save the world.
The Legend of Tarzan
Date: July 1
If it isn’t enough that Tarzan is coming back to the big screen, Alexander Skarsgard is cast as the hunky jungle-man. In the film, Tarzan has acclimated to life in London with Jane and is called back to the jungle to investigate activities in a mining encampment.
Date: May 20
We are finally going to find out why the birds are so angry in this animated comedy.
Alice Through the Looking Glass
Date: May 27
Seeing that the original grossed over $1 billion worldwide, we are almost certain this will be successful this summer. Follow Alice around wonderland as she tries to save the Mad Hatter.
Date: June 17
Kids everywhere will be begging to take a trip to the theater for this sequel. In the film, instead of being in search of Nemo, we are now looking for Dory who is in search of her own family.
